mounting a new directory of previous datastore?

Hi There,
I've been testing PBS in my test proxmox host as a VM.

I decided to do a test where i need to completely rebuild the VM ( simulate having to reinstall PBS because of OS disk failure), and looking at the process of how to re-link previously passed through disks to PBS as Directories and data stores. I only have a few backups on this passed through drive and nothing critical, but trying to understand how to deal with this (worst case for me) scenario where i need to get access to all of my backups.

I have an SSD that passed through the disk and the serial info to the PBS VM. It now shows up in PBS disk info and shows it as an ext4 volume of the 2tb drive (correct). I tried to re-add the datastore, however the GUI won't allow me to associate it as it isn't mounted yet. OK makes sense.

how do I re-add the drive as a "Directory" so I can then add it in the datastore section? looking at the documentation there doesn't seem to be a command to re-link a disk as a directory, only to initialize and create a new one
Code:
proxmox-backup-manager disk initialize sdX
Code:
proxmox-backup-manager disk fs create store1 --disk sdd --filesystem ext4 --add-datastore true
or list existing disks

I looked at the following threads, but they only seem to address associating the datastore, not the first step of how to reassociate/create the directory first?

do I just create my own mount directory and mount it in fstab?

then follow the info below on attaching a datastore?

Or do i need to add a second disk, initialize, create a new volume and datastore, and then, arbitrarily mount my first disk, and then copy my vm backups to the new 'fresh' datastore?

I'm loving learning about proxmox and pbs, just struggling a little learning some of the key areas of handling inevitable disaster recovery. I want to be able to do this on my sample backups before I actually put PBS into "production" in my homelab
