Hello,

Recently decided to try and use my old computer as a desktop-server to run virtualMachines, and for that I decided to use Proxmox.
However, I have some challenges with the connection (Maybe installation as well?):

1. I installed ProxMox 7.1-2.iso to an USB (Using rufus 3.17).
2. I uninstalled the previous OS (Windows 10).
3. Installed ProxMox
4. Attempt to connect to the IP: port given from my other desktop, using Google Chrome. However, I get the "not able to connect" message...

Attached pictures of installation and ip: port

I hope someone can locate my mistake or guide me, thanks.

Edit: I get a reply from another IP adress (62.243.xx.xx) if I ping 192.168.100.2. I have connected the desktop-server to an internet cable, yet without success. I get the following message If I pinging 192.168.100.2:8006 "Ping request could not find host".
Any idea why/how my devices wont connect?

You can't just choose any IP or gateway. The IP you choose when installing must be unused (not part of your routers DHCP range and not already used by another machine) and must be part of your routers subnet. And the gateway and DNS server must be the IP of your router. Your LAN is most likely using another subnet so there is no way how you could reach the server to get to the webui.

Hello, thanks for reply.
I'v been attempting to get connection for a day now, but no matter what I do, i simply cant get any connection.

If I type "Ipconfig" in the cmd on my work station, I get that the ipv4 adress is 192.168.1.16
The Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1
All the tutorials I have been watching says that the IP address, gateway and DNS is automaticly pasted to the server im installing ProxMox on, but for some reason the IP address pasted onto my server is 192.168.100.1, same for Gateway and DNS is 127.0.0.0.

What do I do?

Only if you use DHCP the server would get a IP/gateway/DNS from your router.

Log in your routers webui and look what the DHCP range is. You don't want to choose a IP in that range. Then look at all your devices if they got a static IP assigned. If yes, don't use one of them neigher. Every other IP should be fine to use. So choose a free IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 range (192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254), set the gateway to 192.168.1.1 and DNS to 192.168.1.1 and it should work.

I found my DHCP range, which is from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.99.
I used the IP: 192.168.1.120 on the server, 192.168.1.1 on gateway and DNS.
Got the "Welcome to the Proxmox Virtual Environment", and the http://192.168.1.120:8006/ to connect to.
I went to my workstation and connected to the IP from google chrome... but no connection...

It says that there is no connection to that IP.
I can see on my router that .16 .31 .37 .45 and .46 is being used by some devices...

How do I recover from this? Am I doing something completely wrong? The "Server" is an old lenovo desktop computer.

You're 100% correct. the cable was disconnected for some reason.
Thanks a lot, at least I learned a lot about networking :)
