Migration of QEMU guests from 5.4-15 to 8.2-2

Hi PVE community, do you have experience with a migration from 5.x to 8.x?

What is the suggested method?

I'm reading this thread but the upgrade path 5 to 6, 6 to 7, 7 to 8 seems very problematic.

What happens if we restore a 5.x backup on a 8.x node?

Setup a PVE 8.2 node for testing. Restore a backup of a PVE 5 VM and see if it just works or adjust it manually. Repeat for each VM and find out what it takes to get it working on PVE 8. If satisfied about running VMs on PVE 8, replace PVE 5 with 8.
