Dear,

I use Proxmox5 since few months as a best-in-class virtualization capability for personal access (domotic, monitoring, video management, cameras etc).
Recently, i saw the availability to 6 version and i read some tutorial to migrate from 5 to 6.

And i want to do it BUT ! I want to change my SSD in my server (no raid because i used a nas for save, snapshot and storage) to upgrade from 320 to 1 To.

(in french)
https://memo-linux.com/proxmox-cluster-ceph-migration-version-5-vers-6/
and of course :
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_5.x_to_6.0

My current version :

What to do recommand ?

- start a new fresh installation of proxmox 6 and reconfiguration (https, disk mounting, importation of VMs, etc) on the new disk
In this case, how i can import VMs from the old disk to the new one - especially from 5 to 6 ?

- migrate from 5 to 6 - but my disk is "full" ...

- another solution : clone the 320Go HDD to 1To HDD (partition to partition ?) and make the migration ?

Once again, thanks for Proxmox capability :) !

Hi,

Thanks for your message.
But has I described i don't want to make the upgrade because my disk is full (92%).
Logically, i want to install fresh proxmox one (6 version), make all the configuration (user, mounting, etc).
Mounting the old disk and import previous VMs from Proxmox5 to 6.

1) Do i backup all my VMs to my NAS before to switch off the server.
Install the new, mount all the directory and import them ?

I don't find any tips or tutorial to import vm from 5 to 6 version.
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_5.x_to_6.0

2) Can i backup a config file in proxmox5 and use it to 6 for mounting, configuration, users, etc with the exception of the SSD used of course !?
What is the procedure ?

3) samething for the VMs (MAC address, configuration, guest agent, etc). Any file to backup ?
With this file, can i import the old vm with all informations as notes, cpu configuration, core configuration etc

Thank you !

Please read chapter "New installation" again. This chapter explains how to install a new Proxmox 6 and what you need to move from your old installation, this is exactly what you asked for.
