Hi everybody,

anyone successfully migrated a Windows SBS 2008 to Proxmox 4.2?
I found the docs and I'd test it with clonezilla, but the docs seem pretty old and refer to much older proxmox versions - does it still work?

And where is there the "outdated" information on older version of Proxmox?

The exact version you linked is specific to old windows version with IDE storage and the culprits of IDE.

Maybe we could help better if you state your real problem and not a general question if something works, because I'm sure it works and someone has already done it.

Well, the thing is plain and simple: I found the exact same tutorial of migrating from pyhsical Windows to Proxmox on the forums, but the entries are from 2006.
And my question is plain and simple as well: I'm looking for someone who can report the migration still works with clonezilla, win sbs 2008 and proxmox 4.2.
I don't have a problem yet, I'm just trying to get some informations on how to do things right...

My question would be 'why shouldn't it?', because I cannot see any culprits. Easiest thing is to try to convert and see what fails and why. Most problems are not Proxmox related like 'loss of windows activation' and stuff like that. It's more a problem of the guest itself with its running applications. On most guests you have to migrate to hardware as similar as possible to the original one to get it to boot, everything afterwards is guest and application specific, not Proxmox specific.

On the page you mentioned is also a "migration from a live system" section, which you can try as a simple test if everything works and play around.

So, to answer your question:

Yes, but depends on your actual hardware and setup and can therefore not be fully answered with yes.

the actual P2V cloning of Windows is simple enough; the problems that remain are twofold:
1. the presence and proper registration of boot device host bus drivers for the target platform and
2. revokation of license

Neither of these issues are Proxmox related, as lnxbill pointed out, and nothing in Proxmox changed to make the instructions different. dealing with the boot device host bus drivers is dealt with in the links provided, but you have to follow the instructions to the letter. There ARE alternatives, such as Acronis Universal boot or vmware vcenter converter but they shouldnt be necessary if you follow the conversion instructions.
