Migrating Physical to Virtual

Greetings,

We are using Proxmox VE 4.0. We have a Dell VRTx running 2 blades and a bank of drives. We have setup the Drives as LVM Shared storage.

I have tried Clonezilla (device to remote device and .img file to .img file) and also tried selfimage. Each time the transfers complete but when I launch the VM it just hangs at Booting from Hard drive. I read a few posts about the MBR not transfering and we tried manually coping the MBR with still no luck. The images are running off the Shared LVM and not the local drive. Is it possibly to transfer from physical to virtual with Proxmox using LVM storage?

What is the image type of your VM disk image, qcow2/raw/vmdk?Is it Windows/Linux on your physical node that you are trying to convert virtual?Did you restore the image using clonezilla inside the VM?

They are Windows Physical boxes.

Images are Raw /dev/vg_sdb

I did try restoring by creating an image file saving to a Samba server then restoring from the image file saved on the Samba server.

Hi Timothy
There is a lot of different ways to migrate Physical to Virtual ( see our wiki https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Migration_of_servers_to_Proxmox_VE)

You can try this method ( assuming you're migrating windows systems)
SSH_Migration_of_a_Windows_physical_machine_to_a_VM_raw_file_directly

I advise you first to migrate the hard drive to an image file before, and after that we can convert it to use your LVM volumes.
