Hi,

I have a 4 node cluster running PVE 1.9. All OK.

We have recently purchased our 5th node, but we are going to setup a new cluster running v3.1 for the enterprise repo access.

The process is:

1- Install v3.1 on new node.
2- Backup all VMs on node4 from v1.9 cluster.
3- Restore all those VMs on node1 from v3.1 cluster.
4- Reinstall node4 from v1.9 to be node2 from v3.1
5- Repeat steps 2,3,4 until all nodes have v3.1

¿Anything I might be missing?

Thanks in advanced.

Best regards,

no, if you repeat step 2,3,4 you will be restoring vms on "node4" forever (step 5)... :-D sorry, just a joke.

- it could work, but in order to simply restore vm an 3.1 and hope they will just work, the new 3.1 cluster should offer them all identical resources (storage, etc, with same name)
- expect to find (windows in particular) to need updated drivers for nics/discs.
- if you have openvz old CTs be aware of this http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/OpenVZ_Console: I had to reinstall a 8.04 CT from scratch because I had no way to make it work with this new console...
- if you can, do some compatibility test before (eg: restore vm on separate network, try to boot, etc)
