HI, I'm brand new to VE. I have a small set up in my home lab, two hosts in a cluster both tunning 7.0-11. I have an ESXI environment that I want to move to VE and I have tried one vm that is Ubuntu 18.04. I followed the steps in the Wiki, and the machine is up and running. That part was quite easy. However I'm now stuck on why this machine will not answer to pings or any other type of traffic, port scans etc.... The UWF firewall is not active, and I can ping everything, dns server, gateway, switch, VE host.

I've change the network adapter type to each of the choices, reload the machine and get the same result. I run tcpdump on the host and I see nothing coming in the interface ....

Any hints or clues as to what could be going on ? What can I provide you, logs etc ......

thanks in advance
Ken

Thanks, I have only the one switch, there is another VM on the same node, and while the Ubuntu server can ping it, the other machine, which is reachable though the network can not contact the Ubuntu server at all. I even loaded UFW and set up filters to see if somehow that was an issue, but again it, like TCPDUMP its not seeing any traffic ....

ok it was sort of asymetric routing ..... on boot, the system recognized the interface but changed the name to ens18, on inspection of the interfaces it only ever showed lo ..... so a quick ifconfig up brought the interface up, quickly changing netplan to be ens18 and NOT lo fixed it ...... ugh
please close ..... all's good
