I have an LTO4 drive and tape set that seems to work all be it with the LTO4 access warnings which I believe are due to LTO5 having extra information storage on a chip on the cart, the error messages I believe are harmless..

Ignore this - I am migrating from Bacula and vSphere - learning new stuff is hard

Those LTO-4 “access warnings” against Gen-5 tapes are harmless. Your drive is simply telling you “there’s extra metadata here,” but then proceeds to read/write the tape in standard Gen-4 mode without any loss of data integrity.

Yes, I now realise that, shame I have so much invested in LTO4 tapes - I will carry on and if I can find a cheap 5/6/7 I guess I will spend some more.
