lookup_datastore failed - Permission denied (os error 13) errors

All my backups to Proxmox Backup Server are failing with permission denied errors and when I look at the /var/log/syslog, I see several lookup_datastore failed - Permission denied (os error 13) errors.

Permissions on the root datastore directory:
drwxr-xr-x 5 backup backup 4096 Oct 30 00:24 pmx-backup

I restarted both the Proxmox Backup Server and Proxmox VE nodes and that did not help either.

Hi,
what kind of underlying storage are you using for the datastore? If it's an NFS mount, you could try this solution.

Nope not NFS. Direct hard drives. I have it installed on dedicated machine with HDDs mounted in fstab - very basic setup.

Could you give us more details then?

From PBS:

• the relevant entry from fstab
• In case you're not backing up as root@pam, the output of proxmox-backup-manager acl list
• a failed backup log (in the GUI in the upper right corner, click on Tasks > Show all tasks)

From PVE:

• a failed backup log
