Is it possible to have a Proxmox VM with the same IP as the host?

I see that when I set the same IP address, netmask, and gateway on my virtual machine (VM), the VM doesn't have an internet connection.
However, when I set an additional IP with a virtual MAC, it works and has an internet connection. Is it normal that I can't set the same IP address as the host?

Sure, it is not normal or recommended setting the same IP address on both the host and the VM when they are connected to the same network.

The need is very simple:
- you rent a dedicated server or a VPS which has just one IP address
- you don't control the router, so this one IP address must be sufficient for proxmox and the VM
