Install on USB key

I'm trying eliminate the need for any hard disk storage in my Proxmox deployment (compute nodes only). Based on this URL, it appears possible to install Proxmox on a USB key and boot off it. (http://c-nergy.be/blog/?p=1159). Are there any performance impacting draw backs in doing so? (swap / cache / proxmox cluster / etc...). I'm planning to have 2-3 nodes in a cluster each booting off a USB key.
In theory it shouldn't matter, as relatively small configuration files are written / read once the system is booted.

Is anyone doing this?

Not yet, but I'm playing with this too. I tried ESXi 5.0 on an USB flash drive before. ESXi stores the /var folder on the harddrive. This is made during setup.
