First time Proxmox user here. I finished my initial install of Proxmox VE 4.4, rebooted, and was given a local IP of 192.168.1.34:8006 to access the web GUI. I can successfully ping the IP address from any machine on my LAN, but it refuses the connection, so I can't connect.

What am I missing?

I can access plenty of other locally hosted web gui's (like FreeNAS) without issue, I assume my router/firewall rules wouldn't come into play, since it's all local, right?

I have a simple, conventional home network setup here. No clusters or multiple users.

You need to use https to connect: https://192.168.1.34:8006
Thanks, but that was also one of the first things I tried with no success.

What ended up doing the trick was updating the certificates from the shell first. I guess I'm a little surprised that's necessary on a fresh install, but at least I'm now on to my next challenge: the default DNS settings not working out of the box.

That is not necessary (if you install with our installation CD.
I used the iso provided on the website and followed the instructions provided by proxmox to do a usb installation. Are you suggesting that installing the identical image, on a different physical medium, would somehow have produced different connectivity results?

The iso installer always works for me. I can access the GUI without configuring anything manually.
