Hello friends!
I thought my evening was going to be just fine...but of course, it is not.
On my to-do list has been to migrate my server from ESXi to Proxmox. I've been waiting for my 'spare host' to be available for the migration, especially since ESXi has been running fine for the moment - I've needed to do it, but I've just lacked the time.
Well, for whatever reason, ESXi has managed to go pear-shaped. Pink-screen-of-death, failed install...it's just a mess. So, nothing like a system failure to accelerate a migration!
The problem is that, while the datastores still have viable data on them; so far it doesn't look like there's any data loss...but I obviously can't boot ESXi. So, my plan was to move my VMs to an external, wipe the server, then move them back. Only...I've only ever used the ESXi import function in a context where ESXi was working.
So, if there is any wisdom to be had about the means of converting the data where my task list doesn't involve spinning up a new ESXi host, that'd be epic.
Thank you, kind friends, for your wisdom!
