? if you want, use DP to backup specific folders in pve, like /etc/pve or /etc as a whole,
but: vm backups? pve has excellent integrated vm backup, which creates "whole vm" backup archives wherever you wish (eg: network share)
then you can use DP to copy those archives elsewhere (eg: tape).
