How to simulate bit rot

I have a small home backup server with no redundancy. This means that if bit rot was to occur I would have to manually replace the file which is why I went to the zed.rc file and added my email. I wanted to test to see if I would actually get an email if bit rot was to occur so I was wondering how I can manually simulate some bit rot occurring so I can then manually run a scrub and wait for an email?

Easier to sim bitrot in a VM or pool-backed-by-files.

NOTE you can also set copies=2 per-dataset for important stuff, I do this for my browser bookmark backups.
