How to restore a backup from and OLD Promox to a NEW Promox

Hello, I have a backup of a CT that was running in and OLD Proxmox.

I have put the backup in the NEW Proxmox, I mean in /var/lib/vz/template/cache/

The file is like vzdump-openvz.tar.gz

When I try to create a new CT, from Templates I choosse this file, but it gives me a error...

"Creation of container private area failed
TASK ERROR: command 'vzctl --skiplock create 100 --ostemplate /var/lib/vz/template/cache/vzdump-openvz.tar.gz --private /var/lib/vz/private/100' failed: exit code 48"

I am kwoning that it is a backup and I think that it could be restoring like that, however I don't know in which folder copy the file in order to restoring.

I though that copying to the /cache folder and using it like a template it would work, but it would not.

Please, could you tell me where to put the backup file in that NEW Promox server and steps to restoring it?

I am new in Proxmox and Linux too.....

A Little bit more info: I have tried to put it on the /dump folder (in the NEW Proxmox server).... but I still not see anything in the web-interface of Proxmox to restore it.....

I tried it. It is in that folder too, but I dont see a tab from where I could see the file to select and restore... in the bakcup tab does not appear anything (I mean... from Serverview -->Datacenter --> Backup tab) .

From where I have to select it to resotre?

Mmm inside the shell of proxmox, try to restore manually, i.e. if you want to restore the file vzdump-101.tar as VM number 105 do
vzrestore /var/lib/vz/dump/vzdump-101.tar 105

Check permissions of the backup file. Worst case set it as 777 to see if you can now view in the Web GUI.

I have done it, but I still don`t see the file, or at least I don¡t know where to go in the GUI..... the file is in the folder /dump

Hello again, as I have told you, the difference I see is that you talk about a .tar file and however I have a .tar.gz file

I try to uncompress like if it was a .gz file:

--> tar xvzf vzdump.tar.gz
--> tar -xvzf vzdump.tar.gz


I receive the same message:

"tar: skipping to next header"ç
"tar: a lone zero block at 174"
"tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errores"

Do I have to do on that way?

What happe witi this .tar.gz file ????

I would like to see this machine (CT) on the NEW server...

I put it on my FTP server from my OLD Proxmox.

I get it from my FTP server to my NEW Proxmox.

I try with "vzrestore vzdump.tar 104"

and the same message:

Well...., even more info... I am not understand how "complex" could be just to restore a backup....

I tell you.. in fact I dont know why the previour error has dissapeared, I mean... now when I try to restore (I have done a new backup just a .tar file made from the GUI of OLD Proxmox), the process begins however it tells an "unexpected EOF"

Please, what could be happening??

I just want to restore my backup..... why such kind of problems....

What can I try?
