Hi,
along with my other vm, using vmbr0>eth0 to access phisical LAN and the internet, i wish to experiment with PXE booting machines, so i think to create a lstp server vm and a pxe client vm and make them "connected" in a virtual LAN, separated from all the other VM and phisical LAN. I have just eth0 on this test pve server. Which is the best way, and where can i can find some info?

Thanks...
Marco

I have a similar problem, i want to generate a virtual DMZ, but i didn´t found any way to generate a "full"-virtual-networkcard.

Just create a new bridge which is not connected to a physical network interface.
I beg you pardon my newbieness :)
is there any way not to reboot all the times after those network changes in pve? maybe sometimes is really needed, other times i could just restart dome daemon in the right sequence..?

Marco

To make the network changes taking effect you simply need to restart the network daemon.

Thanks, would a

/etc/init.d/networking restart

be sufficient, you mean?

Marco
Yes, this should do it. Unless promox needs to be "triggered" to be aware of network changes but from an OS perspective that is all required to apply changes to your network configuration.

So, could i manually do just

cp /etc/network/interfaces /etc/network/interfaces.backup
mv /etc/network/interfaces.new /etc/network/interfaces
/etc/init.d/networking restart

in order to avoid rebooting?
Or some other pve daemons need to be restarted too?
Or we forcely have to reboot?

Thanks, Marco

Sorry, but why do you think we did no made that fully automatic? (hint: because it is
very complex and depends on too many things).

Thanks for replying, Dietmar, i'm sorry if my post seemed some request, it was just a need to understand, as another user before in the same thread suggested to just restart networking...
Maybe it's the usual linux experience that make new pve users, like me, think that it should not be needed to reboot a server machine (normaly in production env) just for adding a "virtual" interface... i guess that pve is complex, but sure proxmox team and devs make it seem so easy and simple that maybe we (new users) often forget that it's not really that simple, i beg your pardon.

The problem is that many services use the network - for example all VMs, and all network related storage like NFS and ISCSI. We simply found no way to restart the network without affecting the other parts. Feel free to post any ideas how to do that - it would be a nice feature.
