I have been playing with proxmox since the weekend and loving it and i think the whoel idea about proxmox is really cool (and this lead to the buying community license).

I used Google chrome web browser to login locally from my home i can login with out problem.
But i am faced with a little problem.. i noticed i am able to login via the local IP (192.168.0.xxx:8006), I install nginx and reverse proxied my home proxmox server through port 80, I then got my dyndns account hooked up to my home proxmox server (through port 80) so i can remotely access it from anywhere.
but when i try to login to access the WebUI through the nginx reverse proxy (i.e pointing to url like proxmox.example.com) it fails and the linux and proxmox authentication realm
returns a 401 error (Connection error 401: No ticket).#

I think i am possibly missing a step with this..

Any idea or advice on what is going ?

Cheers

Follow the paket.

It looks like what you are writing makes sense, but might just be that in real life your setup is different.

Have you tried acces without the dyndns, i.e. your external IP? Does that work?

How about locally as your proxy should be reachable locally as well?

Yes i did try to login via my external IP and the results were the same with the dyndns, it returned (Connection error 401: No ticket).

That works very well.. but then i want to be able to access my home proxmox server from anywhere...

I don't undertand why you need/want nginx as reverse proxy? Just forward port 8006 TCP on your router to your 192.168.0.xxx internal IP Adresse and you should be good to go.

Opening up direct or even proxied access to your Proxmox host doesn't seem like a good idea. Why don't you run a small OpenVPN server VM on your Proxmox host and port forward to that machine instead? That would allow you to access your Proxmox host securely without opening it up to the world.
