How to Backup Standard LXC containers?

Trying to backup standard LXC containers (using the dir driver).

proxmox-backup-client backup /var/snap/lxd/common/lxd/storage-pools/default/containers/my-ct --repository $PBS_REPOSITORY

as expected, doesn't work. there needs to be specified a .pxar or .img block device. which other options does it take?

I take it is not possible OR is there a workaround?!

to specify a pxar you have to give it in the format:

name.pxar:/path

that worked! thanks. what is a pxar? i didn't even try it because i thought it only existed in proxmox machines and the machine being backed up is std Ubuntu
