I read through the wiki but the Proxmox storage model is still new and a bit confusing to me.

My initial setup was one hard drive using the just the defaults for the Proxmox install, then another couple of drives being shared through NFS for containers.

I am running out of storage space for containers and VMs so I have a secondary drive I want to use for this. It is freshly wiped and doesn't have any partitions on it.

How do I go about setting this up?

You have several options here. What you would like to do? One drive with lvm-thin, a couple of disks with raid (zfs), one disk with normal filesystem like ext4...?

I'm not sure. Not ZFS or any raid for sure, I just have two disks for VM storage and need more space. I would think lvm-thin, is that what the default (local-lvm) storage is?

Ok, i'am right when i say you have installed PVE on single disk, and you are running out of Space on this disk. But when you have a second drive for that, yes you can add this to PVE and grow up your storagespace over the second disk. But this is not recommended. If one disk fails everything is damaged.

You can add the disk as singledisk, but then you can not grow up your actualy diskspace. You can add the disk as nother storage to your PVE and move some virtual disk on.

Recommended is to use PVE with Hardwareraid or ZFS.
