I have created a windows 7 vm in proxmox, downloaded the virtio drivers and afaik I got everything installed correctly. I needed the vm to use a piece of hardware that connects usb and the software is long since discontinued. So I will install the software on my Win7 32bit VM, but I need to plug in the item usb (into the win7 invironment). How do I do that? Do I have to plug it into the proxmox server? or can I plug it into the machine I am accessing the vm from? Ideally, thats what I would like to do. So I can load the win7 vm, launch the software, plug in the usb hardware into my laptop, which would send that over my lan to the proxmox server and I never have to physically access the server itself. Is this possible?

hi,

you'd create a USB passthrough for it (in the VM hardware settings on the GUI). and yes you'd have to plug it to your PVE server.

can I plug it into the machine I am accessing the vm from? Ideally, thats what I would like to do.
afaik, if you use SPICE you can do that as well [0]

hope this helps!
