Hi, I am trying to run a proxmox windows, or ubuntu vm, but I always keep on getting an error.
Windows:
It says booting from hard disk then puts me in the bios window?
Ubuntu:
it says booting from hard disk and never does ANYTHING.
Why Is that?

Thanks,
Aarush Kamat

You need to have the correct added ISO as a CD drive for the VM you wish to boot/install.

"Help..." - please choose a title which tells us something about the problem. Just "Help" is not... helpful :-(

Windows:
It says booting from hard disk then puts me in the bios window?
For a good Windows experience some more steps than for a Linux guest are recommended and possibly required: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Windows_11_guest_best_practices

Ubuntu:
it says booting from hard disk and never does ANYTHING.
The second step of the "Create: Virtual Machine" dialog requests an ISO. Did you choose something like "ubuntu-24.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso"? If you do not modify anything else then this .iso should be automatically used for booting.

What is your CPU? How much RAM do you have? Please show us the output of qm config <yourvmid> and pveversion -v. Please put each command in a separate
...
-block for better readability.

Then there basic requirements to be fulfilled in beforehand: do you have a computer which is capable of running VMs? Is virtualization enabled in the BIOS? You would expect to get helpful error messages if there are functions missing - but actually I am not sure regarding the behavior on a trillion different computers.
