Help with cloning a VM

Have Proxmox 3.0.23 on a box on a public IP with several other public IPs in my subnet available to me. I've successfully created a FreePBX 2.11 running CentOS. I've tried a couple of different ways to clone a VM with no luck. First, I know from the Wiki manuals that I have to "Remove all user data, passwords and keys - In order to do this run sysprep on Windows or similar tools or scripts on Linux and just power-off the VM." But I can't find a clear and perfect way to do this. So when I converted my working machine to a template and tried to create a CT from that, I was out of luck. I then created a new VM and tried to right click and clone that, but I suffer much the same pain. I am able to set the host name and delete the device and create a new one, which gives it a new MAC, but I cannot get the machine to recognize ifcfg-eth0 in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

so an ifconfig only gives me the local address

Thanks.
