HDD outside of VM

Hi
I have just installed my first proxmox machine.
I have a HDD which is encrypted with LUKS. I would like to make this accessible inside a linux VM.
Is this possible, and if so are there any reasons not to do this?
My thinking is that (a) I will not have to copy all the data into a VM, and (b) if the VM (or the proxmox server!) fails I will still be able to access the data.

There's a few ways I can think of. You could pass the whole disk to a VM like this. You could do the same but pass the storage controller the disk is connected to via PCI(-e). You could mount it on the host and share the directory via VirtioFS or CIFS/NFS. The first is likely the easiest.
