Been trying to search around but I haven't found my direct answer as clear as I would like so I thought I would post here.

Background I have a small PVE cluster that run in my home-lab. I use ZFS on a 500gb SSD for storage and PVE running 128gb m.2 SSDs with three nodes that are identical.

At work we have a Nutanix NX-1065-G5 that is retired. I decided to try to see how different clustering and setting up that platform with PVE would be.

I installed PVE on the 64gb SSD DOM and got all four nodes clustered. The additional storage available on each node is a 2Tb SSD and two 8Tb HDD. All together thats a 1x64Gb SSD DOM, 1x SSD, 2x HDD.

When I go to setup storage I get the warning that I shouldn't setup ZFS on these storage devices because they are backed by a hardware raid controller.
I guess this is where my brain doesn't compute, but I wouldn't be leverage the raid controller in a traditional since (initial thought). In my head these platforms where Nutanix branded and specific appliances that handled the storage through their hyper-convergence technology. I am limited to three slots per node and I'm not looking to dump money into this project i'm using it to learn so the 1xSSD and 2xHDD is what I got.

What would be my best plan to handle storage? Also I'm trying to avoid logging into the raid controller since I am still using the Nutanix IPMI and BIOS which is pain, imo. I am trying to manage the system through PVE.

My initial plan was to leave SSD (not the DOM) as an addition LVM storage then use the HDDs in a mirrored config with ZFS. I did read that I would see some performance degergation if I use ZFS, I am not sure what raid controller is baked into the system this is a 2U 4 Node cluster to pull it apart would take some finness on my end. What or how could I interface with the raid controller natively with PVE?

The actual hardware configuration is different from setting up a raid5/raid10 on a tradional raid configuration plus I dont have enough drives so I would limiting my storage by setting it up this way.

Looking for some input here anything would great.
