Hello everyone!

Running proxmox 6.2.
Just finished a setup with 3 nodes and 2 zfs pools running across the 3 nodes with replication and HA, no fencing. On the 1st node I have 4 vm's running, 2nd and 3rd node nothing (just replication of the vm's on the 1st node). In the future I might install some vm's on the 2nd and 3rd node.

I shutdown the 1st node and the vm's started automatically on the 2nd node. When the 1st node came online, the vm's migrated back to the 1st node.
Everything works smooth like butter.
Why do I need fencing?

Proxmox VE has integrated software watchdog fencing, which works out of the box. No need to setup anything.

In the HA-Fencing tab it says "use watchdog based fencing" and the options are greyd out. Is this normal? Is built in fencing still working?

Yes.

You can try to test it by unplugging a node with a HA guest on it. After ~2 minutes it should reboot and after ~3 minutes the ha guest should start on one of the remaining nodes.

There is also the HA simulator which can help to get a feeling for how it works. https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#_ha_simulator
