HA with mix of storage (NFS and ZFS)

Recently I had both power supplies blow up on a TrueNAS server which had shared storage for several VMs. I'm now wanting to implement some HA for the critical services.

On my large VMs I keep the important files on local (ZFS) storage and older non-important data on the shared NFS storage.

If I enable HA would only the ZFS storage copy over between hosts and still use NFS or will the HA replication copy *all* data over, eliminating the NFS storage?

Hi,
you need to manually enable replication (enabling HA won't do that automatically). You need to create a replication job to each node, otherwise create a restricted HA group for your VMs and limit the allowed nodes to the ones you replicate to. Replication will ignore shared storages, so yes, only ZFS volumes will be replicated. Note that in case of a node failure, you will lose data since the last replication, so replication should be frequent enough.

Hi,

I'm surprised: it isn't possible to configure replication jobs due to NFS-Storage? Why? Can hardly believe not using a network file system for HA and replication?!?

And now? What can I do? Or what is my misunderstood?

Thank You :)

EDIT:
OK, HA-groups works, like I thought.

Replication makes use of the ZFS feature and uses "zfs send" and "zfs recv" commands. So no ZFS, no replication. NFS doesn't need replication as it already is a shared storage (while ZFS is pure local storage).
