HA shared storage using SAN

Hello guys,

i'm planning to migrate and old cluster to a new hypervisor.
But I'm no clear if there is a solution to have share SAN storabe (over FC) using snapshot and a backup solution like Veeam.

CEPH and ZFS are not a feasible solution, because we have already a SAN stuff.

What's the best solution (and production ready) that we can have at the moment?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @stich86, Veeam integration is independent of the type of storage you choose. Additionally, how Veeam does backup is not controlled by PVE. So if you have concerns about it, you should reach out to Veeam.

As for using FC storage and taking advantage of Snapshots: your immediate option today is to use the OCFS+qcow scheme. There are a few threads about it in the forum.

Good luck

Hi @bbgeek17,

I've seen some posts, but doesn't look so much stable.. also latest kernels seem to break it very easly :(
I can check if that FC storage has an option to export LUNs over NFS, in that case use qcow2, I can get snapshot working.. and it's supported.

What do you think?

Thanks for your feedback!

Sorry, this fell of my radar.
I concur with @LnxBil about SAN/Block.

If your SAN/NAS solution is able to provide NFS, instead of Block access, then yes, you have a path to shared+snapshots solution.
Keep in mind, there are always trade offs. For example, you may not be completely satisfied with QCOW snapshot speed on top of your older NAS.

Cheers
