Grub Rescue error: symbol "grub_is_lockdown" not found

Hi,

I just installed the recent updates via UI, (Community Edition).

I am keep getting to grub rescue :

error: symbol "grub_is_lockdown" not found.
Enterting rescue mode...
grub rescue>

I am able boot the server, using Promox Installation Media, Rescue Boot under Advanced Options.

It just that the server cannot boot on it own.

Had been troubleshooting for about 2 hours, where i was unable to resolve it. Then i reinstalled proxmox.

i still am confident it should be possible to resolve it. Via the Promox Installation Media, Rescue Boot it starts the server just fine. Just didnt find the right commands to restore grub.

thank you. Yes, that's how I am now, but if I restart the machine I have to do this process. I wanted to avoid reinstalling proxmox but I can't find any valid solution.

the https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Recover_From_Grub_Failure article in the PVE wiki should contain some pointers that might help in that situation.

if you manage to get the system booting again - please share which upgrade (you get the information from /var/log/apt/history.log (and the rotated) variants) caused this failure in your case

also - check if `pve7to8` mentions something about the boot-loader.

I solved it by launching the build in uefi shell of my server and startet grubx64.efi by hand, it looks like the boot entry tries to boot bootx64.efi which does not work for some reason. I did a grub reinstall and hope the next boot works without interruption.
