Growing Disk Space

I have a issue with growing disk space,
The Node has 2 physical drives, assigned as sda and sdb for backups on the VM both drives with the same issue,

df on sda shows only 79GB used out of 1TB
df on sdb shows only 281GB used out of 1TB

Proxmox is showing
local-lvm (sda) shows 255GB used out of 1TB
local-Backup (sdb) shows 382GB used out of 1TB

It seems every time a file is written the disk space grows but if I remove files it never shrinks. I have even removed the entire contents of the backup, rebooted no difference.

I have tried to backup the VM but it fails.

Really strange. Have you checked your disk with SMART? What version do you using?

pveversion -v

Drives are both new.
I have several machines with the same configuration.. They are working fine not having the growing disk space issue
