New to proxmox and would appreciate advise on setting up storage.

System is for homelab, non-production.

Setup initial filesystem as zfs raid1 consisting of 128 GB portions of 2 x SN850X 2TB SSD
This will only be used for Proxmox and other bare metal assets. Goal is to keep it tight to facilitate backup.

Question is next step. I have a total of 3 SN850X in the system:
  • 2 x SN850X 2TB SSD
  • 1 x SN850 4TB SSD
Looking to setup ZFS VM Storage Pool, here are options under consideration:
  • 2 x 1.69 TB partition of SN850X 2TB SSD (the remainder of those drives)
    • in RAID-1
OR
  • 2 x 1.69 TB partition of SN850X 2TB SSD (the remainder of those drives), plus
  • 1 x 1.69 TB partition of SN850 4TB SSD
    • in RAIDZ-1

Assuming that this is all reasonable, I am leaning toward the RAIDZ-1 option for redundancy.

The remainder of the SN850 4TB SSD would be setup as cache, iso repo, etc.

Current Setup:

Note: the WD Red is the first of several that will be added as a NAS.
