I have encountered this issue on several different Proxmox servers and different windows VMs.
I attach a USB 2 Drive (I have a 500gb and a 1TB) I enable passthrough to a virtual guest (WinXP, Win7 Server 2003/8 or 2012)
The guest sees the drive, I can write files to the drive, or open files from the drive, but when I try to format the drive, all I get is an error saying it cannot be completed and renders the disk useless in the VM. I then have to take it out attach it to a physical computer and reformat it and it works.
In the guest I have tried deleting the volume and recreating the partition and formatting it in Windows GUI and even command line. The reason I need it to format is because I use the Windows Backup program which formats the drive.
Has anyone seen this before and have a solution?
I am using the most up to date version of Proxmox 3
TIA
