I don't know if your aware of the Rackable line of servers. They all come with a built in card called the roamer, it allows remote console access, power control, and limited monitoring over a telnet connection. I was wondering what would be involved in getting this working as a fencing device.
To power off one of these systems, you just telnet to the IP of the roamer, then a few keystrokes and the system is immediately powered off, like holding down the power button. (The roamer sits between the power switch and motherboard) It also has the ability to reset the system as well.
