Hello All,
I wanted to provide comment for the Proxmox Forum on Paid Support and the experience I've had in case anyone new to Proxmox is wondering whether or not to pay for Proxmox support.
I fully support the open source model Proxmox has provided for us all. Proxmox provides a fantastic virtualization experience. I've used ESX and Hyper-V in a corporate environment (as well as Virtualbox at home in a test environment) and Proxmox is my hands down favorite hypervisor to use. Using Proxmox in a corporate environment I fully support the model of paying for support. The Proxmox wiki and forums provide all the documentation you would need to stand up your virtual environment. But in a business especially, if a problem occurs that is beyond your expertise, having paid support to assist you will save you money in the end as you get the issue resolved quickly and your business up and running again. To that end I would like to provide comment on the two paid support I've used in the past 3 years since installing Proxmox in our office.
I first started using Proxmox Paid Support through Proxmox itself. Martin and Dietmar are obviously very knowledgeable and were very helpful to me when I initially stood up our Proxmox Servers. They provided me excellent service for us and we were very happy to support Proxmox in this way. I would highly recommend paying for Proxmox support through Proxmox itself, especially if you are in a similar time zone.
I live in Canada and was looking to see if there was support provided a little 'closer to home'. Through the Proxmox website I discovered Symmcom which are located in Alberta Canada. I reached out to Symmcom and was very happy to be able to speak to Wasim to review the type of support they provide. It was a great conversation and I immediately recommended that our company pay for Proxmox Support through Symmcom. I must say that working with Wasim and his team has been amazing. Their knowledge and customer service skills are excellent. They will go the extra mile to assist you and make sure your problem is resolved. I would highly recommend anyone looking for Proxmox or even general Server assistance (non Proxmox) to consider Symmcom and reach out to them to have a conversation with Wasim and his team. We've since purchased general server support for our office to support me for when I'm on vacation. I assure you that you will not be disappointed with Symmcom.
Hopefully this post will help others as they delve into using Proxmox and considering paid support. I'm not suggesting that Proxmox is hard to use..In fact it is quite easy once you've read through the provided documentation on the wiki and through posts on this forum. But if you want that extra piece of mind to know you have someone to back you when a problem occurs, Paid Support, in my opinion for any business critical environment, is definitely worth every penny.
