Hi All,

I’ve been using an external hard drive (5TB WD) for the past year connected to Proxmox and passed through to a FreeNAS VM. When I set it up initially, it showed up as an ATA device and I passed thourough using the device id.

Today I updated proxmox and after the reboot, my VM wouldn’t start because it couldn’t find the drive. After digging a bit I found that the device id changed completely and is now prefixed with usb.

What are my options here? Appreciate any help!

Maybe change the VM configuration file to match the new path to the drive?

Will try that - hope it doesn’t mess with my FreeNAS setup though. And it was passed as scsci so I guess it’s fine to leave that bit as is?

Sounds like only the path (something like /dev/disk/by-iid/...) changed. You can still use the same VM settings and I doubt that anything changed on the drive. The path is not known inside the VM, which will still see it as SCSI device number-so-and-so.
