Extend the hard drive after installing Windows

I installed Windows with guest agent and created a template
When I build a new virtual server from this template, unfortunately the hard drive does not expand
And I have to manually extend it from inside Windows

I think that this is expected. How is the new system supposed to know that it should expand its partition to a different size?
The template consists of a disk with a partition on it which I would find very odd if it will adjusts automatically. Why do you think it should behave like this?
