Existing Ubuntu 24.04 server to Proxmox Proxmox VE 8.3

Hello im new with proxmox,

i already have a running ubuntu 24.04 server on the same machine as the proxmox, on different storage.when i found out about proxmox im in love with it and i want to run my existing server using proxmox.


Ubuntu server is on /dev/nvme0n1 how do i run this server in proxmox if can? or what is the method is use to run existing ubuntu server that is on the same machine as proxmox? can i run it baremetal but using proxmox? i try to search at google but can't find it.

Hi,

so I guess Proxmox is installed on /dev/sda?
You can simply create a new VM, without any disks. Then pass-through the physical disk to the VM as outlined in our wiki: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Passthrough_Physical_Disk_to_Virtual_Machine_(VM)

yes promox is in /dev/sda ok i'll take a look and try to make sure, all inside the server storage is retain right ?? do i need to make storage or mount after i do this?

i can see the boot up but after that only give me blank page like this ? i can't do anything

So, guessing according to the screenshots, the GRUB menu appears and after selecting the "Ubuntu" entry, the output just turns blank?

Should the machine get an IP via DHCP? Have you checked if you can e.g. ping it? Or even login via ssh to it?
Was there a graphics card configured before? Maybe it loads some graphics driver?

yes at the console it become white noise and after that just blank, i demsg i can see it load up but can't use ssh screen or my server screen, i can't login using ssh or whatsoever, and i check the website that's in there i can't view it seems like it don't have network

i try

qm set 100 -scsi2 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST3000DM001-1CH166_Z1F41BLC

it won't boot unless im using virtio,my storage is nvme. seabios also cannot boot up.so im using ovmf.is my config correct if not can u help me fix it?
