Hi everyone, I'm trying to install Proxmox on my Dell R730xd server, but I'm encountering an error during the boot process. It gets stuck on "Loading initial ramdisk..." and then goes blank. I've tried different versions of Proxmox (8.2, 8.1, 7.4, and 6.4) and followed several troubleshooting steps, including ensuring UEFI boot is enabled and secure boot is disabled, but I haven't had any luck. If anyone has experience with this or could offer some guidance, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi,

it seems to be a problem with firmware and/or hardware, as the error message indicates ("Fatal hardware error").

From the limited oops, the problem seems to lie somewhere in conjuction with PCIe (as there seems to be a AER error triggered) and/or ACPI probing.

I'd suggest updating the firmware to the latest available version (if not done yet), that often resolves such problems.
Otherwise I'd also suggest contacting your server vendor, as they are the ones able to help with firmware/hardware problems.

Judging from several posts in the forum here, the R730xd is quite widely used with PVE, so there's unfortunately something off with your specific machine, it seems.
