Hi everyone,

I’m planning to reinstall Proxmox with LUKS encryption on my system for better security. Before proceeding, I want to make sure that I backup my entire node configuration, including:

VM and container configurations
Network settings (bridges, VLANs, etc.)
User settings and permissions
All software packages and shell-based installs that I added to the host directly via the terminal
Storage configurations (disks, pools, shares)

Basically, I need a way to quickly restore my environment to the same state after the fresh encrypted installation. What’s the best way to back up both the Proxmox settings and any additional tools/scripts installed on the host?

THANKS!!

Well, @etimmy there's your piece of advice. You basically do not mention how you are doing it, but if I guess Debian install, then indeed you only have to copy in the right files and are basically good to go.

I assume you will be doing this NOT from a LIVE system, if you do, be aware of e.g.:
https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/backup-cluster-config-pmxcfs-etc-pve.154569/

You could even just move over your existing install onto LUKS, so yeah, rsync and chroot will do, too. ;)

I think you should search the forum more, e.g.
