Does PBS run on qnap ts-431xeu

Hi,

Proxmox Backup Server only runs on x86_64/AMD64 systems, see also System requirements.
So no, running it on your device in unfortunately not possible.
Hi,
and on a x86 qnap NAS ? (for pbs too)
i have a :
- QNAP 459 Pro (Intel Atom Dual Core D510 1,66 GHz) with 2 Gg of ram
- QNAP 239 PRo II+ (Intel Atom 1 Core D425 1,8 GHz) with 1Gb of ram (my prefered option, the 459 is highly used for a lot of things)
Thx you.

Maybe the question is not the real one ... a qnap has it's own OS on a kind of hardware. If you want to install pbs on a qnap hardware your qnap OS is gone ... but you could use any qnap nas share for a pbs installation on real x86 oder virtual vm as backup space (for the pbs chunks) and then it has no functional limitation if your qnap has an arm or intel atom cpu, it just would be slow but will be always work.

Losing the qnap OS is not an issue, i have 4 NAS and only use 2 of them. But bad performance could be an issue, you are right. Better to buy a cheap mini PC for pbs (and install it also as a qdevice for my 2 nodes cluster) and use the NAS for backup storage.
Thx you for your reply.

PBS can run in a x86 VM on QNAP, I have installed it on a TS-453 pro unit before.

The problem is that running with HDD will make the system extremely sluggish (PBS is very i/o intensive).

If you can upgrade the RAM to 4GB and install SSD for the QNAP OS and for use as the datastore the TS-239 might well work for you.
