Proxmox Mail Gateway allows you to fetch mail from other IMAP or POP3 servers.

I cannot find further documentation on this: any hint?

We would like to have our email client being able to IMAP access the (internal) Mail Server by using the PMG

Fetchmail is a utility for polling and forwarding emails. You can define email accounts, which will then be fetched and forwarded to the email address you defined.

So it is not what we are searching for.

yes - PMG is a mail-proxy to be deployed between the internet and your internal mail-server - it is not meant to store mails for your users.
