Hi
I'm currently working on setting up disk spindown for my custom HP Z620 server. I've been using hdparm to set the APM level to 1 and the spindown time to 10 minutes, but it seems like my disks aren't cooperating. Despite the server being nearly idle for about 18 hours a day, they just won't spin down.

I suspect the reason might be the constant stream of small writes I see in TrueNAS when I check the disk activity. Currently, I'm running TrueNAS with Photosync (indexing every 24 hours), Syncthing, and Netdata.

I'm aiming to save on power costs, especially with energy prices currently sitting at around 50 cents per kWh. Any ideas on how I can get my disks to spin down properly? I'm keen to optimize my setup and cut down on unnecessary power consumption.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can offer!
PS: My apologies for the basic questions; I'm new here.

How do you use your disks? hdparm sounds like you use them for a storage on PVE and then TrueNAS with its ZFS on virtual disks on top of that? Or disk passthrough via "qm set"? Or PCI Passthrough of a HBA?
