Disk passthrough for Minio, is it worth it?

Hello,

I have to plan a MinIO distributed system and the infrastructure is a 5 node PVE cluster, because we dont want to use dedicated machines for the Minio system. I have to create at least 4 nodes of Minio to achive a good EC coded, distributed pool. I have 4 8TB disks dedicated for minio in 4 Dell 740xd machines. The Minio documentations said that i have to add the disk directly to Minio and create EC pool on those single disks without any RAID or other filesystem or disk layout handler (like LVM) under Minio.
I know that there is a CLI way to do the disk passtrough to VM or CT from Proxmox, but its not a direct passtrough, so i cannot see SMART attributes inside the VM, etc.
Currently i dont have information about how MinIO handling failures (SMART is required or not), but currently i see only this passtrough as a solution.

Anybody using something similar? Is it working as expected? I dont want to go with ZFS, neither RAID, because MinIO can handle all the redundancy for me, but i dont have experience with this passtrough way.

Thank you for all your opinions.

Cheers,
Zoltan
