I'm aware that there has been some discussions in the past.
Since I was hit by an issue caused by those pretty names, I'd like to suggest to use the unique wwn/eui device names when creating a zpool from GUI or by the installer.
Background:
Nowadays when creating a pool., it looks like that:

Those device names are nice to look at but from a technical point of view incorrect.
Storage devices uniquely identified by their WWN (if a WWN is reported) or NVMe EUI.
I had cases in the past where a firmware update of a swissbit industrial SSD caused the model name to change.
This change caused the system to be unable to boot since the rpool could not be imported.
With NVMe the system reports the SSD sometimes with different pretty names:

As a workaround it's always possible to zpool detach/zpool attach devices with their unique identifiers.
I don't have a problem with that but I'd like to see the use of the unique names by default in the system for the sake of reliability.
