I am trying to install proxmox on a dell R710. I have tried multiple versions with varied results. The closest I got was ver 8.0.2. It actually started to install but then came up with an error about not being mounted. The only version reported to work, 8.1.2 can't be found anywhere.

This is from the 8.4 install

Maybe disk error but hey, this one is 15years old and eat more power money per year as a new consumer pc or even better a used eg R740 will cost ...

Even the man power hours you invest to get your previous vm's running are a many multiple of a R710 and with small memory footprint it's all useless time in the end. I know it's hard but sorry, reality becomes true.

Have you tried installing Debian or Ubuntu Server? If they don't work too then your hardware is most likely not supported by newer linux kernels.

Have you also tried the 9.0 ISO?
Also, how are you installing the ISO? USB flash drive? How did you write the ISO to the drive? Did you compare the checksum for the downloaded ISOs?
Or are you installing via iDRAC directy?

These errors normally hint to either corrupted ISOs or I/O errors, in particular failing/bad flash drives or not properly written USB flash drives.
