I'm new to proxmox, I need some advice. I have a 256GB SSD, where the local drive is 72GB and the Local-lvm drive is 152GB. Unfortunately, when I repack the database in HomeAssistant, an IO error occurs. The lvm disk will fill up. Is there any possibility now to redistribute the space for example 20GB vs 204GB, thank you very much for the advice - instructions on how I would do it without losing data

Steps would be:
1.) Backup whole disk using the backup solution of your choice and maybe also configs and guests
2.) boot a live linux
3.) shrink the ext4 on pve/root
4.) shrink the pve/root LV
5.) extend the pve/data thin pool

All has to be done via CLI with LVM administration knowledge.
Best you do some research on LVM administration and search to forum (other people already did and documented this). Or for an easier approch you backup all guests, reinstall PVE and tell the installer how big root and data LVs should be and then restore the guests.

thank you for the information, such a procedure is beyond my abilities
That is perfectly acceptable.

But in all cases - you really need to have backups of your VM(s) & LXC(s). MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THESE WORK.

Once/if you have these, Dunuin's second option; Reinstalling PVE & choosing root/data LV size on install - really is a walk-in-the-park. You probably can work it out yourself during the installation process. Just choose the options you need in the GUI installer. If you need somebody to "hold your hand" - there's plenty here on this forum you've already arrived at.

One other thing; if you do nothing now - you'll probably come to regret that later.

Secondly, running a HV & Linux in general, is both a challenge (not massive) & a true learning experience. You'll thank yourself for "having worked things out" - making for an easier job in the future.
