Hello everyone,
I have been using Debian (12) cloud images for a while now and they make my life so much easier.
It allows me to use Cloud-Init and it has just the packages it needs for my Proxmox VE virtualized hardware and nothing more.
My Proxmox VE host is also using UEFI as it allows me to use secure boot since it is supported.
I know that UEFI is the successor of legacy BIOS and the general advice is to use UEFI if possible.
So this leads me to the VMs and the VM BIOS setting.
Currently I am using SeaBIOS (legacy BIOS) and not UEFI since SeaBIOS is the default for Proxmox VE VMs.
When changing over to UEFI, everything seems to work just fine and have no issues.
I do not have any GPUs in my server and thus for me secure boot is not a problem. (And may be an advantage?)
Now I was wondering if I should change my VMs to UEFI BIOS and stop using SeaBIOS.
I cannot really find any info about using UEFI BIOS for Debian Cloud images.
Or for that matter any info on if it is better to use UEFI or SeaBIOS for VMs.
Every advice is to just stick with SeaBIOS since it is the default but as stated before the general advice (at least for PCs) is to use UEFI when possible since it is newer and more secure.
So these statements are kind of a conflicting statement and I would love to hear some thoughts and/or info about it.
On my server I only run "modern" OSes (Debian 11/12 and Win10/11) so for me it is not a concurn if a OS supports UEFI. (SInce I only run active OSes that are not EOL and thus all support UEFI as far as I know.)
Thanks for the info in advance.
