Hello,

I put "something" for cron, just to test it and it doesn't work. When I hit crontab-e I got this:

Edit this file to introduce tasks to be run by cron.
#
# Each task to run has to be defined through a single line
# indicating with different fields when the task will be run
# and what command to run for the task
#
# To define the time you can provide concrete values for
# minute (m), hour (h), day of month (dom), month (mon),
# and day of week (dow) or use '*' in these fields (for 'any').
#
# Notice that tasks will be started based on the cron's system
# daemon's notion of time and timezones.
#
# Output of the crontab jobs (including errors) is sent through
# email to the user the crontab file belongs to (unless redirected).
#
# For example, you can run a backup of all your user accounts
# at 5 a.m every week with:
# 0 5 * * 1 tar -zcf /var/backups/home.tgz /home/
#
# For more information see the manual pages of crontab(5) and cron(8)
#
# m h dom mon dow command
#machina 950 grafika
5 8 * * 1-5 root qm start 950
10 8 * * 1-5 root qm shutdown 950

and every day at 08:05 I got mail from Cron <root@pve> root qm start 950:

/bin/sh: 1: root: not found

and again at 08:10 mail:

/bin/sh: 1: root: not found

I want that machine 950 to start and then to shut down. This is just a test. I will edit the lines later, but I want to be sure that this is working.

Where am I wrong, please?

Regards

BM

There are different crontabs. A system wide crontab at "/etc/crontab" where you need to specifiy the user the command should be run as and then there are crontabs for each user, which is what is used when you run crontab -e. These user-level crontabs won't support that you define a user the commands should be run as, as all commands will be run as the user you are editing the user-level crontab for.

So try it without the "root" in your crontab lines. And its also better to use alsolute paths the the progams. So run crontab -e as the root user and then add something like this:
Code:
5 8 * * 1-5 /usr/sbin/qm start 950
10 8 * * 1-5 /usr/sbin/qm shutdown 950
