Creating storage accessible over SMB

I'm new to VMs etc and on a steep learning curve! I've got TrueNAS running as a VM on Proxmox with a raid controller passed directly to it. TrueNAS manages all of the storage space under the raid controller. I've then passed a NFS share back to Proxmox from TrueNAS as I want the raid capabilities of the TrueNAS instance. I've turned that into a storage in proxmox and attached it to another VM running a CCTV server. I was hoping to have the CCTV files output onto this disk where I could access them from an SMB share. The storage in proxmox is allocated as a "Disk image" and I'm starting to get lost, but I'm stuck when trying to figure out how I should change the storage on the Proxmox side so that the VM stores the raw CCTV recording files instead of saving it saving into a disk image. Any pointers for a newbie?
